The American Stationer volumes.

To make it a little easier for others to find the volumes of The American Stationer, I am placing the complete list of the first 101 volume numbers and years here.

Here's the URL for most of them, but the links within that page may not be connected to a scan.
http:// books.google.ca/books?q=editions:NYPL33433090917026&id=2ztYAAAAYAAJ

Black ones have been scanned by Google and placed online. Orange ones have not been scanned.

The first 8 volumes cover a whole year, and thereafter each volume covers half a year.  To distinguish between the two halves of a year I give the dates subscript letters "a" and "b".

Also note that there are two volumes that are numbered 84, which makes this a list of 101 volumes.  This was a slip-up on their part.

* An asterisk denotes that there are two scanned copies online, and the secondary copy is incomplete.  There are also 13 single incomplete copies.

Well, another one bites the dust. Thanks to Jon Veley, I just received a  copy of Vol. 78, 1915b, a single incomplete copy. I traded with him for a volume he didn't have. The last issue in Vol. 78, the one for the date Dec 25, 1915, is missing, but it's better to have an incomplete volume than nothing. Let me know whether you find any other missing volumes.

Let me check -- I've not had time to do much with online research lately.
In general, I prefer to consult the volumes on Google Books in their online versions, since those versions are (usually) searchable, unlike the pdf downloads. Is there a reason why your list doesn't include direct links to each volume?

I'm getting tired of saying this, but I can't make direct links to each volume because I do not have access to all the volumes online since I live in Canada. Living in the US is a crucial requirement to having access to all the volumes online in order to make those direct links.

Of the 67 volumes online, I have access only to eleven of them, which for some reason are available in "Full view" mode, volumes 7, 13, 14, 18, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, and 30. I could make direct links to those eleven, but the objective of the list is not to provide a list of direct links. I wanted to provide a list of all the volumes with the ones not available online, whether in the US, or Canada, or anywhere, highlighted in red.

Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about Google's IP blocking -- nor am I trying to rub it in. It's just that finding the direct links isn't easy, even for those on the other side of the barrier, so sharing them is a significant contribution to would-be researchers.

I will post a list with links shortly; I did not do so earlier since I did not want to infringe upon or duplicate your thread here -- which is also why I asked about your reasons for not posting direct links. I will also post a bit about the use of proxy servers to get around the Google barrier, for those outside the USA wanting to gain full access.

I've been maintaining a list of my own, with links, which I have cleaned up a bit for public consumption. It's now posted here. Feel free to use it to update your list(s) above. Since some people still seem to be blocked from reading L&P, it seems worthwhile having copies in multiple locations.

Thanks for sharing all those links. My second list above has now been updated. And you're right, it is worthwhile to have copies archived in multiple locations. By the way, your link for Vol. 35 is broken. One letter is missing from the URL, the letter "J" just before the "&".

Thanks for those links as well. The link for volume 26 is broken, although I can't see any of them.

As an added bonus from your previous list, which included scans from the Internet Archive, I discovered another series of magazines, this time with a Canadian connection. If you open up any of the Internet Archive links to volumes of American Stationer in either of our lists, you get a page with an accession record that includes a "Subject" line with clickable links for various subject categories. If you click on "Stationery trade", you get a list of 51 links to volumes in the Archive including all the volumes of Am. Stat., and if you click on "Stationery", you get 93 links. But you also get almost all the volumes from 1884 to 1922, except two, of a Canadian journal titled Stationery & Office Products, but it's really called Books and Notions. And I nicknamed it Canadian Stationer because it was published in Toronto. One of the first things I found was the Camden fountain pen in the first issue of the 1884 volume, on p.17 of the scan.

Yes, I'm on that as well.
And don't forget The Bookseller and Stationer, published in Toronto and Montreal; only five volumes available through Google Books, as far as I can tell.
These are volumes 15 to 19, from 1899 to 1903:

1899 vol. 15 http://books.google....id=LDQZAAAAYAAJ
1900 vol. 16 http://books.google....id=UTQZAAAAYAAJ
1901 vol. 17 http://books.google....id=fjQZAAAAYAAJ missing no. 2 (Feb)
1902 vol. 18 http://books.google....id=sjQZAAAAYAAJ
1903 vol. 19 http://books.google....id=6zQZAAAAYAAJ

When I first realized that American Stationer was online, I diligently started to download pdfs. Only later did I realize that the pdf files were not searchable, and that it was also essential to keep track of the address of each volume (for those not familiar with the situation, Google's "show other volumes" feature [correction: actual name is "View All" - D.] is broken for this particular title). As a result, there are some cases where I have a copy of a volume but still have not been able to re-find its URL. I'm quite sure I don't have volume 80 downloaded; I'll have to check on 34 and 59.

PS Just found volume 80 and have updated the list at my site.

PPS Ditto for volume 34 now.

PPPS I do not have volume 59 in any form. It's clearly either available or was formerly available, as the print-on-demand sharks have it listed for sale.

Antonios and I did the same thing. He diligently found the PDFs, and dropped them off for me in a Dropbox. But I didn't mind the PDFs not being searchable because I looked at every page anyway, so I didn't save the URLs. Looking at every page and printing the best stuff is how I found all that good stuff I posted about here. I have six 3" binders filled with 400-500 pages each of hard copies.

Actually Google's "show other volumes" feature isn't broken, but it's called "View all", and it shows volumes 29 to 90 only. Does this link for volume 59 work for you as a full view, or is it a snippet view only?

Thank you for the link to volume 59. I had been searching for it with no luck for a good long time.
I, too, cannot view volume 32 from your link above.

For me, George, the "view all" link shows only two volumes, neither of which can be viewed online. That's why I stated that the feature was broken, at least for me. The "other editions" window shows a number of volumes, but only a fraction of the total.
