Searched the site and the PDB and found no info on Liberty Fountain Pen N.Y. Here's a photo. Anyone know who made these? Looks like a pretty well made pen.

TIA,

Dennis B

From the New York Times,

Sep 29, 1916; pg. 19 "New Incorporations"

"Liberty Fountain Pen & Gold Pen Co., Inc., fountain pens, pencils, pens $10,000; H. A. Cuppy, G. Barrett, E. Turnburger, Bayonne, N.J."

And

Jan 14, 1923, Page REA10 "Classified Advertisements"

"Sales force, now being organized for Manhattan and Brooklyn by old manfacturer of fountain pens: bonus, pension; protection on repeats and good commission; splendid chance for advancement; good references required. Call before 12. Liberty Fountain Pen Co. 380 Canal Street."

(Via ProQuest Historical Newspapers The New York Times (1851 - 2003))

A tiny bit of info - at least it gives a start date.

John,

Thanks very much for providing at least a starting point. I searched the PDB for all the names mentioned and got no results. A search on Bayonne, NJ, turned up patent # 1,159,027 issued to J.W. Hobson, Jr. of Bayonne on 11-2-1915. The PDB comment was that it seemed to be very similar to the Waterman spoon feed.

While still in the pen, the feed in my Liberty looked a bit like a Waterman spoon feed, so I removed it from the section for a closer look. Alas, not the same as the feed illustrated in the patent in that it only has the ink channels on top and does not have the cutouts or "pockets" described in the patent.

I thought I had made a connection, but I guess not.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi, Dennis, John, et al.,

You might also want to look at George F. Barrett's thumb filler patent #1,038,068 also in the patent database. I believe that he's the G. Barrett mentioned in the exceptionally helpful information John posted.

Take care,

Rob Astyk

Thanks, Rob. I guess my error in my first search was searching all fields for "G. Barrett" instead of just Barrett. I'd agree that George Barrett is likely the G. Barrett cited.

Have you ever seen a Liberty pen before?

TIA,

Dennis B
